The U.S. produced another round of strong employment gains in January, adding 257,000 jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. One of the best-performing sectors was the construction industry, with more than 39,000 jobs added, nearly 13,000 of which were in nonresidential fields.
The January employment report highlights the expansion the construction industry experienced over the last year, with steady job gains and demand for services. Anirban Basu, chief economist of the Associated Builders and Contractors noted the report "provides additional evidence that the economic momentum generated during the final months of 2014 will persist into 2015," according to ACHRNews. The numbers have a particular impact on the HVAC/R industry as growth in commercial and industrial construction necessitate the need for new, advanced HVAC systems in buildings.
With more square footage and greater space needed to house large facilities such as cleanrooms, refineries and data centers, HVAC units must likewise be built to specification, capable of generating enough ventilation to encompass the entire area inside buildings. To do so, engineers and building managers of new or growing businesses must install the latest updated HVAC equipment to ensure all proper energy and air quality protocols are followed.
Staying in tune with HVAC performance
When taking over a large building, companies must realign their energy goals because HVAC units require a lot of power to function. In some cases, half of a business's utility costs come from heating and cooling. But if an outdated or low-performing HVAC system is being used, these costs can skyrocket even further, potentially harming the opportunity for a business to grow with a tight budget.
Keeping tabs on these expenses is key to producing an efficient and streamlined business. New HVAC equipment is necessary due to the greater potential to perform tasks at a higher level. Whether it's an HVAC booster coil or an HVAC chilled water coil, all components must function cohesively and without damage present or else the entire HVAC system will suffer, which, in turn, leads to poor air quality and possible repair costs.
That's why it's critical to incorporate HVAC services into total operational expenses, otherwise frequent maintenance requests and exorbitant electricity costs will create a large hole in budgets, which is the last thing new or expanding companies need.
